“I participated in a program Development in Practice ran at Caltex to enable managers to effectively performance manage and coach their staff. To ensure retention of the skills, the program involved four, hour long coaching sessions at fortnightly intervals, after the workshop. These sessions gave me the competence and confidence to handle performance management issues much better than I had in the past.”
“My coach, Peter Miller, also coached me in negotiation skills. As a result I was able to identify a key stakeholder who had the potential to derail an important negotiation. Based on the skills I had learnt I was able to recognise the individual’s interests and neutralise his influence.”

“The management and leadership programs conducted by Development in Practice have been both highly effective and engaging. The learning methodology used is the main key to the success of the programs because the learning doesn’t begin and end in the training room. Post training, with the support of a dedicated coach, the participants take real life examples to expand their learning and focus their efforts on meaningful goals. Unlike most programs the post training coaching, is mandatory. This is a critical and necessary component of the success of the programs.
Another important factor is the practical nature of the content and the ease with which the learner can engage and participate in activities. The session on collaborative decision making was a real eye opener for many and has been applied to great benefit in many of our meetings, to make them more inclusive and productive. The Store Managers’ Program has enabled our Store Managers to concisely set and manage expectations in their teams. Even more so, we have seen an excellent improvement in their ability to coach their teams to improve their skills and therefore lift their team’s productivity.
Whilst Development in Practice’s programs require effort and discipline, the payoff is rewarding. I recommend their programs to anyone who is committed to long term sustainable change and improvement in employee development.”

“Your program has been an excellent experience for both myself and my team, and of great benefit to the company.
Your tailoring of the material for our particular requirements was excellent – it enabled us to focus on the areas that we needed to work on most, and keep within our budgetary constraints.
The material and workshops were very professional – they were logically set out, clear and easy to follow and very practical. This meant that from the first training session we were able to start implementing the tools we were learning – again a critical need for us.
Feedback from participants, as well as other staff, has been very positive. Participants feel better equipped to deal with performance issues, and staff have commented that they value the structured feedback they are getting and that performance issues are being dealt with promptly and effectively – even when it is their own performance that is being questioned.
From a personal point of view I have greatly enjoyed working with Peter Miller. His practicality, intelligence and ability, and his sense of humour make him a pleasure to work with.”

“I have recently completed a six month coaching course with Peter Miller of Development in Practice Pty Ltd. I have found the two weekly coaching sessions to be of considerable value in improving my management skills. In particular the coaching sessions around confronting performance issues were of great value. The tools provided were comprehensive and easy to understand.
Peter has a caring but challenging approach which I found greatly added to the learning experience. I would highly recommend Peter as a management coach.”
