Program Outline

This training program focuses on performance management - managing employees in a way that encourages ownership of their accountabilities and  performance, rather than relying on their compliance to authority.

The program introduces a simple framework for performance management, underpinned by setting clear expectations and gaining accountability. It shows how effective day to day performance management requires the analysis of performance against the expectations set. Performance analysis facilitates giving constructive feedback, both positive and corrective, on a daily basis. It also enables performance issues to be confronted immediately as they arise. The framework illustrates how effective day to day performance management sets the platform for successful formal performance reviews, which focus not just on results, but on the performance of skills and behaviours that led to the results.

Participants learn that underpinning every business issue is an individual's performance issue, that must be addressed if the business issue is not to arise again in the future. They learn what drives performance - that the choices that people make in performing, determine the results they achieve. These choices of behaviours and skills are ultimately determined by the underlying attitudes, beliefs and values of the individual.

Participants also learn broad communication skills that bring clarity, ownership and objectivity to how people are managed day to day. They learn to communicate clearly and concisely and also how to deal with emotion in performance management.

All the skills and concepts in this program focus on having individuals understand, and more importantly own, the choices they make, which determine their performance. With understanding and ownership, opportunities to develop the performance of the individual can be identified and acted upon, improving the results of both the individual and the business.
